Rent Supplement Programs
Rent supplement programs provide financial assistance to households in need to help them obtain and maintain affordable and suitable rental accommodation. The program provides rent subsidies in eligible rental projects. In the Peace River area, management and tenant selection is the responsibility of the North Peace Housing Foundation. Applicants are prioritized on the basis of need, as determined by income, assets and current housing conditions and placed on the North Peace Housing Foundation wait list for those that are in core need.
Applicants must meet the Core Needs Income Threshold and citizenship requirements.
Priority for assistance will be based on assisting those in greatest need first.
Please note that the Rent Supplement Program is not applicable to those already living in North Peace Housing Foundation locations, as those rental rates are already subsidized.
Private Landlord Rent Supplement
Local housing management bodies pay private landlords a rent supplement to subsidize the difference between a negotiated market rent and 30 percent of a household's adjusted income.
Direct-to-Tenant Rent Supplement
A subsidy is paid directly to an eligible tenant to assist with rental costs, and is delivered by local housing management bodies. The subsidy is based on the difference between 30 percent of a household's income and an agreed upon market rent, to a maximum subsidy established by the housing management body. (The current maximum subsidy provided by North Peace Housing Foundation is $400.00 per month).
